National Dog Day is on Saturday, August 26, and with dogs in homes being killed at a higher rate than in previous years.

It is a great time for thinking about the ways people can save the lives of millions of homeless dogs across the country.

Each day, over 450 dogs are killed in shelter in the United States just as they have no homes. That amounts to almost 20 dogs every hour in kennels across the country.  

"Dogs give delight and eternal affection into every day, so the great tragedy at present is that we're actually losing our best close to her"  Animal Society CEO Julie Castle said.

They are on pace to have the country no-kill and protect the existence of homeless pets in every city and a home, and we need every person who loves pets to help us get here.

Best Friends Animal Society, an established animal welfare organisation looking for to end the killing of cats and dogs in America's shelters by 2025, has data.

In 2022, the number of dogs visiting shelter reached by about 100,000. At the same time, data from the industry shows that dog adoption are sitting at a bit around one million across the country.

These are a few options on how people can help homeless dogs and charities in your area. Because every life protected is a life saved.
